Na categoria de maravilhas humanas, trazemos hoje nesta pequena resenha, a cancão “birth of a new age” do cantor Jeangu Macrooy, tema que concorreu recentemente no concurso de música Eurovisão 2021, representando a Holanda. O cantor surinamese Jeangu Macrooy, residente na Holanda, cantou esta música em inglês e na sua língua materna. Veja abaixo, uma parte da letra:

Yu no man broko, broko mi (mi na afu sensi)
Ora, a frase “Yu no man broko mi, mi na afu sensi“ é baseada num antigo dizer surinamese que significa “sou apenas meio cêntimo, mas ninguém pode quebrar-me”. O meio cêntimo era na altura a moeda mais pequena. E este dizer significa: “podes pensar que sou pequeno e inferior, mas não posso ser destruído”.
Este belíssimo tema parece trazer diversos significados. Por um lado é dito que reflecte questões políticas e sociais, em resposta ao movimento “Black Lives Matter”, mas a nosso ver, reflecte também sobre o que aconteceu a muitos povos negros e africanos, e em última análise, de forma geral, inspira o empoderamento do ser humano.

Yu no man broko, broko mi (mi na afu sensi)
Well, the phrase “Yu no man broko mi, mi na afu sensi” is based on an old Surinamese saying which means “I am only half a cent, but no one can break me”. The half cent was the smallest coin at the time. And this saying means: “you may think that I am small and inferior, but I cannot be destroyed”.
This beautiful song seems to bring several meanings. On one hand, it has been said that same addresses political and social issues, in response to the “Black Lives Matter” movement, but in our view, it also reflects on what happened to many black and African peoples, and, ultimately, in general, it inspires human’s empowerment.
